Information: Wat Phnom (Temple Mount) was built in 1373 as one of the most important pagodas in Phnom Penh. Temple was a wealthy widow Daun Chi Penh is built on an artificial hill, after a great flood had washed away the next Buddha statue. The temple was built in 1926. Largest stupas contain the remains of the ash contains Ponhea Yat (1421? -1462) that moved the capital of the Khmer empire from Phnom Penh to Angkor. This temple area is the center of the city festival in the Cambodian New Year and Pchum Benh.
